POLLING POLLING POLLING...

All of us Bloggers love giving out or opinions, right? Well, I need all of your opinions for a paper I am doing on the Mozart Effect. I know you all know what this is, but in case you need a refresher, Wikipedia says:

~The Mozart effect can refer to:
1. A disputed set of research results that indicate that listening to certain kinds of complex music may induce a short-lived (fifteen minute) improvement on the performance of certain kinds of mental tasks known as "spatio-temporal reasoning;"
2. Popularized versions of the theory, which suggest that "listening to Mozart makes you smarter", or that early childhood exposure to classical music has a beneficial effect on mental development;
3. A trademark of Don Campbell, Inc. for a set of commercial recordings and related materials, which are claimed to harness the effect for a variety of purposes. Campbell defines the mark as "an inclusive term signifying the transformational powers of music in health, education, and well-being. It represents the general use of music to reduce stress, depression, or anxiety; induce relaxation or sleep; activate the body; and improve memory or awareness. Innovative and experimental uses of music and sound can improve listening disorders, dyslexia, attention deficit disorder, autism, and other mental and physical disorders and injuries."~

Sound off! I know you all love music too...So, no excuses please.

I don't know much about the Mozart Effect but I have known about the Jackson Browne Effect for decades. Today I went to the office to work with numbers and get my tax information for the business together. These are the kinds of tasks that I can't stand to do but have to never the less. Last Sunday night while midnight shopping at WalMart, I discovered an new Jackson Browne acoustic CD. I drove home listening to it in the rain. I was in another world. What is it about his lyrics, his music, and his voice. I didn't want to get out of the car. I listened to it through out the day Monday and today at the office. I should've been stressed like hell but I had that CD going all day. His music brings so much peace. I may differ with the guy's politics and might not care much about him if I met him personally, but that guy has ministered to my soul for the past thirty years.
Unlike Mozart, his music isn't complex but his lryics are like a clear and deep pool. There is more to music all together than meets the ear. Music, like laughter is good for the soul.
I remember when dad died, God gave me this song. I sang it every time I thought of him. I sang it for months on end. It was a difficult song to sing, and it got easier in time to sing through without the tears. The lyrics and melody spoke my heart and I sang it until I was healed. Yes, there is healing in music.

Music? Yeah, it produces affects. For me, music is like drugs. I mean I can get the high of highes or I can mellow out into a pool of jello just through music. Examples....

Keith Green's "MY EYES ARE DRY"...everytime I hear this song I cry. Not bad cry, good cry.

BTO's "TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS"....to me that is a man's song. 4 Canadian's flayling away on guitars and drums....driving rhythm. It don't get no better than that.

I listen to classical music. Don't understand it, but I listen to it. My son, Josh, can play some classical stuff that will hurt your head....He's smart and classically well-informed.me?

I'm rock and roll/ singer/songwriter.....But music does improve my mental faculites..

Music,I love to have it on. If I'm on computer I like something Classical, Cleaning house country, getting dressed to go somewhere Christian, depressed 60's.It helps my mood. My sister-law that pasted away last year, would always play Tom Jones and dance around, if she was upset. One summer when I was young I worked at the Arrow Shirt factory, they always played peppy music.I do believe music effects your mood , and the mood your in comes through in your music you play and sing.

Where to start - This prompted me to think of my first recollection of music and it was of being in the church nursery as a wee tot and hearing the hymns being sung by the adults. But that made me sad-since I wanted to be with them. But, remembering when my little boyfriend in the 2nd grade would sing to me as he played his guitar - I was overjoyed. Music has and always will be a huge, influential part of my life. When my daughter-in-law was pregnant with my first grandchild almost 8 years ago, and living with me, she gave me permission to put headphones on her stomach so the baby could listen to Mozart and Beethoven and worship music. She has always loved to sing and dance. Even if I'm not listening to music, there seems to always be a song playing in my head. It causes me to look a little bit like an elephant, standing and swaying in line at the store or car tag or whatever line I am in. But, aside from that rambling, my favorite part is music that helps transport your spirit straight to the throne of God. At home, listening to recordings of our Vineyard worship, or Rich Mullins can have me on my face or Karen Wheaton or Judy Jacobs and I'm dancing before the Lord!! Good companions for heartache music is usually Norah Jones, Sarah Mac Lachlen or Alanis Morrisette. When I'm walking and wearing my I-pod, I may listen to anything from Bob Dylan to the Neville Brothers to Kris Kristofferson, depending on mood and pace. I love riding in the car with windows down, hair blowing and music belting out - such freedom. Then, I'm likely to be listening to Allman Brothers, Leon Russell, Neil Young (Buffalo Springfield), Nicole Mullen, maybe even a little Joplin. It is amazing how music can bring you to tears as easily as it can elevate you to singing and dancing. Thank you God for all the flavors you have allowed. Enough - gotta run-hope this helps.

I totally agree with the effect of Music in ones life. Way back in the dark ages when I was in High School I conducted an experiment with plants using this theory. I played classical, light jazz, smooth jazz and soul to 6 plants. All of the other conditions were exactly the same... same lights, vitamins etc... at the end of the 6month trial the 6 plants that had this wonderful music were twice as large and had started reproducing off spring... the other plants were well but not as large and at that time had produced no off spring.

Music has always been the way to quiet my soul, stir my emotions and a very special way to worship God.

I wonder what would happen if I put my house plant in a room with Motley Crue.

I have seen similar studies about the plants. Also about food and water. What the Bleep Do We Know is a Movie based on these ideas.

Hey Mr. BE, I figure it would get multiple tattoos and star in its own home porn videos.
